Hand on Heart Baby massage believes there are many benefits of baby massage. They can be split into four main categories; Relief, Bonding, Relaxation, and Stimulation.

Baby massage can provide relief for a variety of conditions, such as wind, colic, teething, and congestion. During our beginner’s baby massage course you will be taught strokes to help aid digestion. As a new parent, it can be upsetting to see your baby in pain, you will learn techniques to settle and soothe your baby.

Baby massage is important in aiding relaxation as it helps activate the parasympathetic nervous system (our rest and digest system). During Baby massage, Oxytocin is produced which helps to lower the levels of stress hormones and helps babies feel in a calm and relaxed state.

Through baby massage, mother and baby release Oxytocin known as the love hormone. During our Hand on Heart Baby massage course, we will ensure you and your baby get your emotional 5 a day. By creating a love bubble, focusing on connecting with your baby using eye contact, nurturing touch and exchanging of smells to help strengthen the bond. Baby massage enables parents to give babies the skin contact they crave.

By stimulating the skin during the baby massage it promotes circulation and helps nutrients get where they need to go. It helps with a process called Myelination; this is the development of the myelin sheath surrounding the nerve fibers of the body. Myelination enables messages to be transmitted more efficiently. By massaging your baby you allow the increase and acceleration of this process and help improve the brain/body communication. In addition, it helps with sensory awareness by showing your baby physically where their arms/legs are and allows them to understand where they are and helps make vital connections in the brain.
